I’d just turned the corner of the Bismarck, South Dakota Zoo and there it was. I’d been to a ton of zoos so this was a smaller more modest establishment. Although it was a bit underwhelming, compared to what I was used to, that all changed when I turned the corner and saw him. Just like that my eyes lit up. In a small pen to the side, I spotted a tall, male peacock. I didn’t need anyone to tell me who he was. His majestic feathers and showy nature spoke it all. What surprised me about the whole incident was how fast I responded to the scene. Every part of my senses responded to it. I was overwhelmed by the colors, sounds, look of this big bird, and all simultaneously. It was at that moment that I was reminded about how necessary and effective the right branding can be to achieving visibility. Just at that moment I was intrigued, fascinated and engaged and wanted to step in for a closer look and know more. The same reaction & level of visibility is possible for those who learn to strategically brand themselves.
On average, research shows it takes that average person about 3 seconds to form an impression of another. Most of that judgment is based on value alone and everything they are able to process about that person through their behavior, look, sounds, the color their wearing, facial expression, etc. The task or responsibility of any professional or entrepreneurial woman is to make those 3 seconds count in the favor so the individual, especially one their targeting, will be engaged enough to connect further.
Above all things, visibility is quintessentially necessary. Every professional goal you have is tied to some form of visibility. However, it can pose the greatest challenge for professional and entrepreneurial women. There is a myriad of reasons. Part of it is mindset related (lack of confidence, fear, doubt, etc.) and the other is related to personal brand strategy challenges (communication, body language, appearance, etc.). In order to tease out what is causing the struggle with you increasing in your visibility, it is important to ask some questions. So allow me to turn the questions on you.
